Since March 15, our theatres, like so many around Australia have been closed due to COVID-19. This pandemic has seen our industry faced with challenges of unprecedented scope and impact. However, we know that live performance is a vital part of our community and we have been working tirelessly to ensure that we can bring shows back to our theatres and make the experience as safe as reasonably possible.

That time is now. As we look to open our theatres in November 2020, nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of everyone who visits or works in our theatres, as well as the wider community. Along with our producing partners, industry bodies and state government, we have developed a new theatre experience for you, one that is grounded in safety, but promises all the same wonderful joys and five star experience that you expect from our theatres.

When we reopen, the Capitol Theatre will operate in accordance with its COVID Safety Plan. This plan has been developed with the help of leading health authorities and medical specialists and encompasses health and hygiene protocols developed by the theatre industry led by Live Performance Australia. Our COVID Safety Plan Guiding Principles are that we will always work to:

  1. Reduce the risk of community transmission.
  2. Protect the safety and wellbeing of everyone that visits our theatres, including staff, artists, crew, audiences and contractors.
  3. Implement measures that are consistent with Safe Work guidelines and directives of the NSW Government & NSW Health.
  4. Continuously identify, monitor and manage the risks associated with the delivery of public performances and adapt to new information, restrictions and requirements.
  5. Enable us to deliver on our vision and to provide exceptional experiences that are consistent with broader industry.

Due to the rapidly changing nature of the pandemic response, and the requirements of business such as ours, we are continuing to adapt our plans to the most current guidelines. We will release more detail about the specific COVID Safe measures being implemented, including how people enter the theatre, move around the foyers and cleaning and hygiene measures, closer to the theatre opening to ensure they accurately reflect the requirements of the time.

The below FAQs will also be updated closer to our re-opening date with more information on what you can expect when you visit us.

The opening of our theatres will mark an important moment in reopening our industry. Whilst your theatre experience will be unlike any that you have experienced before, we promise that it will still be magical! Please check back to this page regularly for latest updates. We look forward to bringing the magic and joy of live theatre back to audiences.

  • Will there be social distancing in the auditorium? At this stage we are planning to be able to operate auditorium seating with our standard layout, if that is in line with NSW Health orders. If not, alternate arrangements will be made closer to the performance times.
  • Will there be social distancing in the foyers? Yes, we have multiple measures being implemented in the foyers to ensure we keep everyone as safe as is possible. More detail on these will be released closer to the performance times.
  • What if I am sick with Covid symptoms? If you are unwell, with any Covid-19 symptoms, do not attend the theatre, contact Ticketmaster Customer Service or call the theatre no later than 10am on the day of performance and we will work with you to exchange your tickets for a future performance (subject to availability). If we are unable to facilitate an exchange to another performance, a refund may be offered. Please view each show’s terms & conditions for their exchange and refund policy as these can vary slightly.
  • What if my performance is cancelled? If for any reason, your booked performance is cancelled, you will be provided a full refund or offered an exchange into a later performance.
