Who can apply?

Selected high school students in years 10 and 11 who want to gain knowledge and experience within the theatre industry.

What is the work experience?

You can learn about venue management in one of Australia’s most magnificent historic theatres.

What will I learn?

All the elements of managing a venue, for example: mounting productions, technical operations, facilities management & maintenance, front-of-house operations & ushering, food and beverage service, corporate functions, ticketing, merchandising and administration.

Will I be involved in a theatrical production?

You may get the opportunity to see behind the scenes of live theatre, working with our technical manager who can show you the technical operation of our current show.

How long is the placement for?

One week, the hours and days will vary so you need to be flexible.You will need to be available for two or three evening performances with a late finish.

Who will I work with?

You’ll be working with a wide range of people from our renowned front-of-house team, technical crew, hospitality team, executives, security and our patrons.

Do I need any special skills?

Being able to listen and talk to strangers is important, as is a willingness to be part of a team. If you have pursued theatrical interests in other areas, please let us know. If you are not afraid to get your hands dirty and don’t mind the late nights, this could be an experience you’ll never forget.

How often do you take work experience applicants?

We accept 3 to 4 applicants per year based on the schedules across the Sydney Lyric & Capitol Theatre. These vary from year to year.
